Girls, women and young people with disabilities have the same right to education, health and protection as everyone else. Tareto Africa is committed to making its education, sexual and reproductive health and humanitarian work inclusive and accessible, so that no one in the communities we serve is left behind.
Too many persons with disabilities in our communities are not counted, not registered and not reached by the support the law already gives them. Tareto Africa is preparing Inclusive Narok, a pilot campaign in Narok West to change that. We are seeking to work with organisations of persons with disabilities, the Narok County Government and the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.
Visit households with trained enumerators, including persons with disabilities, to understand who lives with a disability, what they need and what stands in their way.
Help each person reach registration, assessment, assistive devices, school placement and other support, and bring caregivers together in support circles.
Work with schools to check how inclusive they are and make practical improvements, so learners with and without disabilities learn side by side.
Inclusive Narok is at the planning stage. We aim to launch on 3 December 2026, the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Our commitment to inclusion is rooted in the advocacy of our Chief Executive Officer, Leshan Kereto. On 3 December 2022 he joined young people with disabilities at Safari Park Hotel, Nairobi, to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities at #SRHR4PWDs, a platform created by the UNFPA Youth Advisory Panel Kenya.
Tareto Africa carries that experience into its own work: a world that is inclusive for all, where each person feels that they belong.
#SRHR4PWDs brought together many young people with disabilities to discuss their sexual and reproductive health rights and needs. It was a space for them to share, perform, enjoy and mark the day in style.
Persons with disabilities led the day themselves: the master of ceremonies, the DJ and most of the performers were persons with disabilities.
Tareto Africa Trust is a not for profit organisation improving girls and women lives in Kenya through education, health and humanitarian action interventions.
